These photos are from the tour of the Ford Rouge Factory. It is where the F-150 is produced.
Photo 1&2 – a view out over the factory and the “living roof”. The factory side measures about 1.5 miles square.
Photo 3 – this is the plant matter that is growing on top of the roof of the factory. This plant matter that is grown on top of the roof helps keep the building 15 to 20 degrees warmer or cooler depending on the season. It also helps reduce the factory carbon foot print.
Photo 4 – This photo looks out over the section of the factory where iron ore was smelted and turned into steel. Ford no longer makes its own steel, but this factory is still in operation = it was sold to a Russian Company. Also visible is the location where vehicles are painted – the multiple stacks on the right/center of the picture.
Photo 5 – This diagram shows the location of different manufacturing processes across the 1.5 mile square site.
Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos inside the assembly area.
