Today was a pretty relaxing day. We didn’t try to do too much. We would have loved to have spent time with Brandon and Maile, but they were both busy today. So, instead we drove out to Henderson, NV to visit the Clark County Museum. We read a number of great reviews about what a great value it was. I hate to admit it but we got the “senior over-fifty” discount, so entry fee was $1. What a deal.

If you happen to be a fan of Pawn Stars like I am, imagine my surprise when I saw the life size cut-out of Mark Hall-Patton, one of the recurring experts on the show. This is his museum. I had to have my picture taken with the cut-out. As we entered the museum, guess who happened to walk in – Mark Hall-Patton, so I got my photo taken with the “Beard of Knowledge”, as he is referred to on the show.

With that good fortune, it inspired us to make a trip out to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, where the Pawn Stars show is actually filmed. When we got there, there was a line of people ½ a block long waiting to get into the pawn shop. As much as I like the show, I wasn’t about to stand in 97 degree heat to see the place. Instead, we went into a seedy little “antique” store – it was mostly filled with old junk. By the time we got out of that place, the line was pretty much gone from in front of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, so we traipsed on in. Unfortunately, none of the regular characters from the show were there. I was somewhat taken aback by just how small the location is. It makes for tight quarters for filming. A lot of the items you have seen them acquire are on display in the shop. A very classy pawn shop.

Our friend Kathy happend to be attending a conference in Vegas, so we were very pleased to get to see her again. Naturally, the visit was punctuated with a great meal!! Brandon and Maile were able to join us for another great meal at Archi’s Thai Cafe on Sahara at Fort Apache in the Summerlin area. We had a great feast – the menu consisted of Thai Fresh Spring rolls, wrapped in rice paper and filled with fresh vegetables and some Chinese sausage. We also had some traditional egg rolls. Our entrées included Pad Kea Mow with beef, Mongolian Beef, Panang Curry with Pork, Ginger Chicken, Pad Thai noodles with shrimp and Thai fried rice with pork.

Tomorrow we head off to Natural Arches National Park in Utah. It will be a bit of a long drive for us.
