Wednesday – June 26, 2013 – Moab, UT

Today we visited Arches National Park.  Boy was it hot.  We got out there around 10:00 and it was a comfortable 85 degrees.  By noon it was 98 degrees.  Needless to say, that with the heat we were reluctant to take any long hikes.  Unfortunately, if you want to get the most out of this National Park, you really do need to be willing to lace up your hiking boots and get out there.  They Park Service has done a great job of making all of the key sites accessible.  So, we still had a great time.

As I said in my last post – Utah is other-worldly in appearance.  There are 2 parks that are close together – Arches and Canyonlands.  Each of these parks have very different geology on display.

We were able to take a look at the “Windows Arches”, “Balanced Rock” and “Delicate Arch”.  Each was beautiful.  In spite of the heat we did still manage to get in about 3 miles worth of hikes.  The park was fairly crowded with tourists.  We came across countless folks from Germany, Italy and France.

After we spent a few hours exploring Arches, we headed into Moab around 1:30 for lunch.  We stumbled upon a place called Pasta Jay’s.  Who would have thought that the best tasting gluten free pasta that Elisa would have would be found in Moab, Utah.  The chef showed us the package – it was Mariella brand made in Italy.

I had a hand made, brick oven baked personal pizza with pepperoni and Italian Sausage – it was also very good.

I’ll make a separate post for Canyonlands.
