Saturday – June 29, 2013 – Denver and Golden

Today was a driving day as we make our way toward Kansas City, MO.  Before leaving Golden, Elisa wanted to head back into town in order to check out another antique shop before we left.  This gave us a chance to take another few photos there in Golden.  Elisa found a few little things and then we were on our way.  we really did like this town, and could imagine ourselves living there someday.  Golden was founded in 1859 as a mining town and at one time it served as the Capital of Colorado.

After doing a little shopping we hit the road around 10:30.  It was pretty smooth going until we hit Kansas.  Then we had some fairly brisk side winds off the prairie.  That made the going a little slow.  Crossing over into Kansas was a little like going back in time.  All the radio stations we could get played music from the 50s, 60s and 70s.  We stopped in Colby to visit an antique shop that Elisa had found on-line hoping that we would find the prices in the mid-west to set in the 50s and 60s.  No such luck, they were sky high.  We also stopped to visit the the Prairie Museum, unfortunately, we didn’t realize we crossed a time zone and we wound up getting there just as they closed.  In order to break up the long trip to KC, we decided to spend the night in Oakley, KS.  We are at the High Plains RV Resort, however, I think “Resort” a a bit of a stretch.  But it is just for the night so not a big deal.   Elisa used our leftovers from the Chinese restaurant to whip up a quick dinner.

We will get up tomorrow and head over to KC, MO to visit the Kansas City Museum of Miniatures and Dolls.  We have to get there by 1:00 as they will be closed on Monday.

More later
