Bluffton, SC – July 10, 2013
Today was another great day. Although Elisa and I spent much of the day sweltering, the locals kept assuring us that we were really lucky to get several days of great and unseasonably cool weather. After all it was only in the high 80s and the humidity was less than 60%, not to mention we hadn’t had any rain yet. I’ve learned that when you come from San Diego, the term “great weather” is really a relative thing.
Gary and I got out onto the golf course at his club Pinecrest here in Bluffton, As I mentioned, it is also the home course of the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy. As we were teeing off, we saw the kids arriving for practice. Fortunately, we got out ahead of them and we were able to play quickly. I got off to a great start and was 1 over after 10 holes. Unfortunately, I doubled hole 11 and tripled hole 12. I would end up posting an 80 for the round, which I was very pleased with. The course was challenging with water on just about every other hole and trees or out-of-bounds on just about every hole. We managed to navigate the course pretty well. Thank you Gary for the great round. The next one is on me when you come to San Diego.
After that, Gary took us on a tour of Hilton Head with our first stop being Coligny Beach. Elisa and I got to dip our toes in the Atlantic and we were surprised how warm the water was. Almost too warm for me. After that, we headed out to Sea Island resort where we walked around the famous Harbour Town Golf course. Unfortunately, I would not have the time to play the many courses here. I will have to plan a golf trip here soon.
Our day ended with a visit to the best restaurant we’ve been to so far on this trip – the May River Grill. See my other write up on it.
More later – Tomorrow we are headed to historic Charleston.
