It was a long day of driving today. We went from Grants Pass, Or to Issaquah, Wa. A trek of about 450 miles. To make matters worse, traffic was pretty horrible in a number of spots. The journey up to Portland went pretty smoothly. There was a lot of overcast and smoke in the air, but most of the smoke and ash was blowing to the East. However, we were in stop and go traffic from the south end of Portland all the way through the north end. Once we crossed the Columbia River, traffic finally began to open up. When we finally crossed into Washington state, we saw something we haven't seen for the past couple of days - blue sky. There are some wild fires in Washington, but not nearly as many as are currently burning in Oregon.
Traffic was moving pretty well through Washington until we hit Olympia. It was pretty much stop and go all the way up to Bellevue. Where we are staying is the village of Issaquah. This is a small town that lies on the outskirts of the greater Bellvue / Seattle area. Judging from the traffic, it is a pretty popular suburb. After 10 - 1/2 hours we finally make it to our camp ground. It's nice but a little too close to the freeway. We will only be here for 2 nights before we head up to Canada.
We scored a great pull-through site, which makes marking and setting up a breeze. Our little white tow car has its own private parking space. The campground is nicely appointed and the street light all have these pretty hanging baskets of flowers on them.
Having been in the motorhome for such a long day, we both wanted to go for a quick walk and stretch our legs. There is a great paved walking and biking path right next to the park. As we made our way up the trail, we noticed that there are tons of blackberry bushes right off the trail. We sampled a few of them and we were shocked at how sweet they were. We may have to make another trip back. As we trekked further up the hill, we couldn't help notice how nicely decorated the freeway sound wall was.
Tomorrow, we will do a little exploring of the Seattle area and we also hope to visit with Rob & Kelly and their 2 kids.
More later.
